Drop-in Website for Environmental Education Events

The Japan Environmental Education Forum (JEEF), a networking organization for groups and individuals involved in environmental education, launched a new event information website in January 2004, named the "Eco-Time-Cafe: Drop-in Website for Event Information."

Various groups throughout Japan hold interesting environmental education or nature-experiencing events. The public, however, have limited access to information about these events. With a view to rectifying the common image of environmental education as somewhat aloof and distant, JEEF aims to provide a wider range of people with information about various events, and give them the chance to participate more freely in environmental events.

JEEF is now calling on environmental organizations nationwide to register as event organizers. The web site's contents section introduces registrants as nature guides and gives their event information. A bulletin board on the website also allows registered organizations to post e-mail newsletters so that visitors to the site can view the information that fits their needs.

Taking advantage of the Internet through this information page, JEEF is making an effort to publicize environmental education events in the hopes that more and more people will experience and feel closer to nature.
