Keywords: Chemicals NGO / Citizen

The Sick House Syndrome Association, a Japanese non-profit organization, released a report on a national survey of sick building syndrome at its symposium recently.

According to the report, 53 % of the 93 houses investigated showed concentrations of formaldehyde higher than 0.08 ppm, the guideline value set by the World Health Organization (WHO), and Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The study also reveals that even brief exposure to this chemical tends to cause symptoms of asthma, including asthmatic attacks.
