International Workshop on CDM/JI in the Transport Sector Convened

In the context of efforts to combat global climate change, an International Workshop on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)/Joint Implementation (JI) in the Transport Sector, organized by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, was held in Tokyo on March 27 and 28, 2003, with the attendance of government personnel and experts from Japan and abroad.

CDM/JI initiatives in the transport sector are not as active as in other sectors, in spite of the fact that it accounts for approximately 20 percent of the global carbon dioxide emissions. This workshop was aimed at promoting CDM /JI initiatives through sharing accumulated experience and information and actively exchanging ideas.

This was the world's first international conference focussing specifically on CDM/JI in the transport sector.
