Environment Ministry To Develop Biomass Recycling Technologies

Keywords: Environmental Technology Government Renewable Energy

Japan's Ministry of the Environment, in cooperation with the Agriculture Ministry and other related government agencies, will start to develop a series of technologies for biomass recycling in the 2003 fiscal year. Important features of this initiative include testing of these systems in rural areas, and the world's first attempt for a city-based biomass system. By combining various core technologies, including high-efficiency hydrogen gasification and fuel cells, the zero-emission recycling system is expected to produce electricity, heat, organic fertilizer and other useful outputs. The overall budget of this four-year project will be around 10 billion yen.
